A Brutal Marriage
Terse got married at the age of 18. Everything was good at first, but eventually, her husband became a mean drunk and started to abuse her. Because she loved her children, Terese stayed in the relationship until her kids were old enough to live on their own. And after 29 years, she left.
Because she was so emotionally drained after her grueling marriage, she wanted to remain single, but her co-workers would often encourage her to try dating apps. And one day, she gave in and made an account. Not long after she started exploring dating apps, she met a man named Christian. He was an oil rig worker who was working internationally. The two started an online relationship that lasted two-and-a-half years. When Christian finally asked for money, he told her that he needed it to help him start his oil drilling business. Terse sent the money. After some time passed, he told her that he needed to borrow money to help pay his taxes until he could get his company off the ground. As time went on, Christian kept running into more and more problems that required Terse to send more money.
Because she was in a vulnerable spot after leaving her marriage of 29 years, she never told him no. She ended up wiring him over $40,000 in total. But Christian never repaid her back as he promised. The two only communicated through an online app and they never video chatted, so Teresa had no way of knowing that Christian wasn’t actually who he said he was.
Teres was begging to get frustrated and depressed. while she was still engaging in a relationship with Christain she hired a private investigator to locate him and told him about it. Christain told her it was good because he wanted to be found.
Cheated by An “FBI Agent”
Not long after Terse told Christian about the investigation, someone contacted her on social media claiming to be an FBI agent. He told Terse that Christian was a Nigerian scammer and he would help her get back the money she lost. He asked for $20,000 in gift cards to look into it further. He told her that he would help her get her money back. After talking to the FBI agent for months she never receives a dollar of her money back. Yet, the “FBI agent” kept asking for more and more money to help him solve the case. In total, Terse sent him over $64,000.
When talking about this story, Teres had tears in her eyes as she told us that she is not a rich woman, and losing the over $100,000 dollars that she sent to these two men has put a financial burden on her. Terse openly talked about the fact that she often contemplates suicide, and has even gotten to the point where she has almost attempted it, but her Christian faith keeps her from going through with it.
